4.2 The twofold state of Jesus Christ

For centuries, the doctrine of Hypostatic Union has been the foundation of Christology, however it appeared too speculative to the Lutheran theologians of the second generation following the Reformation. With the doctrine of the twofold state of Jesus Christ, they came closer to the Christology of the Bible without invalidating the doctrine of Hypostatic Union. The doctrine of the twofold state of Jesus Christ is strongly rooted in Lutheranism and less so in Catholicism.
